What to expect when we release a new version of WriteUpp
We release a new version of WriteUpp roughly once a month. These releases help us introduce new features, make improvements and keep WriteUpp running smoothly and reliably.
When do releases happen?
We usually release new versions of WriteUpp early in the morning, at around 7–8am UK time.
During a release, we switch WriteUpp over from the previous version to the new one. This normally only takes a few minutes.
Will WriteUpp go offline?
No. A normal release does not mean that WriteUpp is unavailable, and you can continue using the system as usual while the release takes place.
You may occasionally notice that WriteUpp feels a little slower than usual for a few minutes while the new version is being released.
If we ever expect a release or maintenance work to cause actual downtime, we will let you know separately in advance wherever possible.
What is included in a release?
Every release is a little different.
Some releases include exciting new features or changes that you will immediately notice. Others focus more heavily on behind-the-scenes improvements, such as performance, reliability, security or maintaining the technology that powers WriteUpp.
Even if a release does not contain lots of visible changes, the work included can still be important in helping WriteUpp run smoothly.
How can I find out what's changed?
Once the new version has been released, we publish release notes explaining what has changed.
These will highlight new features, improvements and other updates included in the release.
For some releases, we may also show a pop-up within WriteUpp to highlight the most important changes, and we may update the banner on the login screen so you can quickly see what’s new.
What should I do during a release?
You don't need to do anything differently. Simply continue using WriteUpp as normal.
Very occasionally, your browser may still have parts of the previous version stored in its cache after a release. If something looks unusual, a page isn't loading correctly or a feature appears to be behaving strangely, a hard refresh will often resolve it.
